Tuesday, I got a check in the mail from Creating Keepsakes! Wahoo! When I got it my husband said, "That's nice that they pay you for something you'd just do for free." How true is that?! I think it's exciting enough to see a layout I did in a printed magazine but it's even better when money changes hands (especially when it changes to my hand)! Honestly though, I'm surprised...I didn't think I would get paid until after it printed. And since they accepted two of my layouts for publication, I'm not sure which one it's for...Too bad it's not enough to quit my day job...that's what I need to figure out: how to get paid to scrapbook. I'm open to suggestions!

The first time Trotwood really saw and got to explore snow was in February. Despite our super mild winter this year, we did get a light dusting of snow one day. And since I ff was here. still hadn't gone back to work yet, I got to see his reaction to all the snow and record it on camera. It was so funny to watch him wander around the yard and try and figure out what all this white stuff was. He kept saying the snow was a "big mess" and talking about how cold it was. We had such a fun day.
I love the movie "Up" for so many different reasons. When I saw Ju Kneipp's new kit Fly Away From Here, I knew I wanted to use the theme from "Up" with it. The photo below was taken in June 2011 when we took a family trip to Pea Ridge National Military Park. That trip is a story in itself and I need to scrapbook all the rest of the photos we took there. This Ju Kneipp kit is awesome and all the Design House Digital decorators did amazing jobs with this 1 Kit Many Ways feature.

I just recently did this layout for the 4 Play (4 kits, 4 decorators) feature at Design House Digital. I really love scrapbooking recent photos of Trotwood but it's so much fun to go back and do them from when he was much tinier. One of my favorite parts about these photos are Trotwood's lime green Kermit-the-Frog slippers.

On Saturday evening, I participated in the Design House Digital monthly speed scrap and this is the layout I made for that. The DHD speed scrap lasts for about an hour and every 10 minutes, the moderator gives you different instructions on what to do with your page. So, at the end, everyone's pages have the same basic layout if you followed the instructions correctly. It's a lot of fun and definitely a challenge. It always takes me more than the allotted hour to finish my page but I still enjoy participating.

After much thought, I've decided to revert from my beloved pseudonym back to my real name. So, hi everyone, I'm Aria. I figured with my blog being connected to the Design House Digital website where I actually use my real name, I might as well have the two sites matching. I will still be referring to my husband as Mr. Rochester because...well, I think it's romantic. And Trotwood will still be Trotwood. It's just such a cute nickname. We'll also refer to our dearly departed daughters with pseudonyms although I haven't figured out what to call our daughter who was born in January. The update on our genetics testing is, well, there is no update. We're still waiting to hear what tests our insurance will approve. Our case is supposed to be before some committee right now.

I love this photo of Trotwood. I don't know why but for the longest time he would run around and put this red frisbee around his neck. Sometimes, he'd try to balance it on his head and call it a "hat" or he'd try to put it on mommy or daddy's head.

Come celebrate [inter] National Scrapbook Day this weekend with Design House Digital with a blog hop and an awesome collaboration kit from the Design House Digital designers, called Retrospect:
The kit is absolutely free and you can download it all at once from the Design House Digital Shop. All you have to do to get it for free is follow along on the blog hop and collect the different letter codes at each site. Easy peasy!
Today, I'd like to talk just a little bit about some of my favorite keyboard shortcuts in Adobe programs. They're shortcuts that I use every day whenever I'm scrapbooking or using another Adobe program at work. Using these keyboard shortcuts make my workflow so much faster and easier. (I use a PC but if you're using a Mac, I believe you switch out the Ctrl key for the Cmd key.)
- Selection Tool: If you click and hold the CTRL key while you're using a tool other than the selection tool (the tool highlighted to the right), your mouse will change into the selection tool allowing you to select objects on your layout without actually having to switch over to the selection tool. One of my absolute favorite shortcuts is the shortcut for the zoom tool.
- Zoom Tool: So many times when I'm working on a layout, I want to zoom in or out to get a better look at details or the entire layout. By using the keyboard shortcuts, it allows me to do this right at once without switching whatever tool I'm currently working with. To zoom in, hold down the CTRL and spacebar keys and to zoom out hold down the CTRL, spacebar and ALT keys and your mouse will change to those tools.
- Duplicate Layers: CTRL J - I use this one ALL the time.
Also, using the Retrospect kit, I've made a version of this page into a Quickpage for you to download for free here.
Don’t forget to collect your letter so you can get that gorgeous Retrospect kit free! My letter is:
