This past weekend Mr. Rochester and I had a houseful of visitors! His parents came for a visit Thursday - Saturday and my mom arrived Friday and left this morning. I feel like I was at work most of the time Mr. Rochester's parents were here but it was really nice to visit with everyone at the times I was home. It is so nice to be able to see family over a weekend now that we live so much closer.
Saturday my mom and I went to a quilting "Shop Hop". We spent pretty much all day long going to 5 different quilt stores around this area--some of them were a good 30 miles from each other. I know absolutely nothing about quilting but my mom is really into it. She definitely has a talent for quilting and even teaches classes in her hometown sometimes.
Anyway, my mom is going to make the crib bedding for our son and Mr. Rochester and I were thinking about doing a sports or dinosaur nursery theme. Sports seemed like a good theme for a boy--Mr. Rochester likes sports, and I guess I do too--and dinosaurs, well dinosaurs are just cool and can definitely be a boy thing. Other than the theme ideas, I had no idea of what to look for in a quilt! The first quilt shop we visited, I found a sports quilt pattern that I liked but I wasn't crazy about it. I didn't find anything else until we visited the last quilt shop. There we found the cutest pattern for a dinosaur quilt and I think this one is going to be the winner! What do you think?
I don't think this picture really shows how cute the quilt actually is but I really like the design and the colors. We're going to have my mom embroider the dinosaur names into the quilt blocks and I think we're going to change the wording around the quilt from "Stomp, Chomp, Roar" to something else. So, our theme is DINOSAURS! I like it...
By the end of the day on Saturday, my mom had me interested in quilting and signed up to take my first quilting class! It's going to be the last two Saturday mornings in April and I'm so excited. Everywhere we went over the weekend had the cutest fabric and now I just need to pick out which fabric to use in my very own quilt! Quilting seems a lot like scrapbooking but with fabric.
Oh, and just for any of you who may use an internet site to get directions, I have decided that google maps lies. I will not be using google maps for my directions in the future. The directions I downloaded from google maps had us taking some backwoods, dirt road in the Ozark mountains to get to a destination. At one point the dirt road was supposed to split and we were supposed to turn onto another dirt road but there were no signs at a fork in the road indicating that this second dirt road was in fact the dirt road we were supposed to travel on for another 4 miles. Oh and to add to all this, it was SNOWING! It unbelievably snowed all day on Saturday here!
